Volusia County-based nonprofit delivers thousands of hygiene kits to local schools

"VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – What began in 2018 as a small idea to make sure girls had what they needed when they needed it most has grown into a county-recognized nonprofit helping thousands of students across Central Florida.

The Oopsie Project, based in Volusia County, collects menstrual products through an Amazon Wishlist and community drives. Donations include thousands of pads, feminine wipes and panty liners.

Each July, about 80 volunteers gather for what organizers call the “Stuffing Party,” where they fill 10,000 Oopsie Bags with 20,000 of each item.

The bags are then delivered to school nurses in Volusia, Flagler and Seminole counties, 40 to each school, just in time for the start of the school year.

Leaders with the Oopsie Project say they are now working to expand their reach, especially in West Volusia and Seminole counties, so all girls have equal access to supplies.

Community members can support the mission by donating, volunteering or hosting a supply drive. More information can be found on the organization’s Facebook page and website at oopsieproject.org."
